Name 'ECE'

This standard detergent is often referred to as 'ECE-2' detergent or 'ECE Reference Detergent (1998)'. The acronym 'ECE' in that terminology refers to the European Colorfastness Establishment (or German: Europäisch-Continentale Echtheitskommission), a European organization that used to work on standards and test protocols in the field of color fastness of textiles, in that respect similar to the US American AATCC (American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists) who also cover that field of technical work (amongst others). The ECE activities were later completely taken over by CEN.

Reference in ISO 6330

ISO Standard 6330:2012 "Domestic washing and drying procedures for textile testing" specifies several reference detergents, including a phosphate free 'ECE reference detergent 98' in Annex K. The specification in ISO 6330 includes a table with the formulation. Please note that this reference to 'ECE reference detergent 98' is/was intended to refer to the ISO 105-C08:2010 formulation, however, the published standard has some of the percentages in the composition table slightly wrong. We cannot solve this formal issue, but we can confirm that the ISO 105 C08 deterent was/is meant ...
